Waterfront Project

Impala_Sidhom_Blakehurst_010

Impala’s client was building a new home on the water in Sydney’s Southern suburbs. The client engaged Impala to design and build all the joinery on this project, including the kitchen/s, bathroom cabinets, study, wardrobes and entertainment units.

Joinery features to note:

  1. The study joinery is a combination of satin polyurethane and timber veneer. Lots of bench space was important as well as cabinets to conceal paperwork, open shelving was used but kept to a minimum to reduce clutter. The feel was to be contemporary and neutral yet tactile.
  2. The walk in robe is timber veneer with minimal handles. The client was looking for understated simplicity, but also practical storage options. To this end, the large cabinets have doors, whilst the smaller areas are open shelving to allow for ease of access.
  3. Wardrobes in other bedrooms were to be white polyurethane (matching the walls) with doors flush to the adjacent walls, finished with a shadowline surround. Minimal handles were chosen in keeping with simplicity and practicality.

In the open living space, the client wanted a small contemporary TV unit. A cantilevered bank of drawers flanked with timber veneer was designed for this purpose (matching the kitchen materials), making the unit an unobtrusive piece and allowing the water views to be the main focus.
