Wine Cellar: under the stairs!
A luxury home built in the 1980s needed a facelift to transform its dated fittings to suit it’s
grand scale.
The lounge room was unappealing and pokey. The space under the stairs was dark and underutilised. The storage wasn’t needed in such a large house.
The client wanted:
A whole-home renovation was undertaken with the designer creating a new layout that
delivers an exceptional kitchen, laundry and living area. Walls were removed and the front
of the house was completely redesigned to create a whole floor of living space from the new
oversize foyer straight to the amazing alfresco areas with the addition of a gazebo with an
outdoor kitchen & bathroom, pool and landscaping. The reimagined footprint offers open
plan living with luxurious fittings and features yet is robust enough to cater to a bustling
domestic life and stretch effortlessly to large scale entertaining.
Under the stairs, the wine cellar was designed to store and display a boutique wine
collection.
Closed off behind a glass partition and door with a separate air outlet to control the
temperature the bespoke joinery adds style and is a practical use of a previously wasted
space.
The selection of timber look laminate captures the look of a handmade European wine cellar
without the high price tag and with a clever design that made manufacture easy, speedy,
and affordable.
Led strip lighting draws attention to the space and adds ambience during nighttime
entertaining.
Leather-clad door pulls were chosen to tie into the newly leather-clad stairway handrails.
