The client brief was to design a kitchen for a small family to suit the open space extension in a freestanding cottage in Sydney’s inner west. The kitchen was to be warm, inviting and functional. Impala recommended slatted polyurethane doors in an antique white hue. These were teamed with discreet top mounted handles to balance the texture on the doors. Warm, sliver grey mosaics were used for the splashback, to compliment the strong blue colour used on the home’s exterior. Frosted glass doors in over head cabinets were used for practicality but also to keep textures consistent with the extensive use of glass in the windows and louvers above the kitchen space. A thick bench top on the island anchors the space and the island provides seating for the family of three. A wire wine rack either side on the island is delicate and practical, completing the kitchen design symmetry.
