Our client purchased a 1980’s house in a leafy area on Sydney’s north shore. The substantial home with five bedrooms, pool and tennis court needed extensive updating. As part of the renovations, Impala was contracted to build the kitchen which needed to service a family of five. The client brief was space, functionality and storage. With this in mind, the ideal position for the kitchen was at the end of a large open plan living area. Tall cabinets were built wall to wall and a large island was placed in front, creating a large, practical and functional kitchen.

The large island above provides functional working space and allows the chef to face into the room and watch children whilst cooking. The sink was also built into the island meaning the user doesn’t need to turn away from guests or children when washing up. The island houses plenty of storage which can be accessed from both sides.
To meet the brief, Impala built cabinets to the ceiling, maximising storage. The client requested two full side fridges side by side (hinged at opposite sides) and these were built into the tall cabinets.
The client requested a neutral main colour with a feature hue for the island and matching glass splashback. The bench top was all about practicality. The client chose Corian for it’s hard-wearing properties and contemporary aesthetic. Critical to the modern, sleek design was that the kitchen has no handles anywhere, also making it easier to clean and wipe doors.
